Urogynecology is the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence (loss of bladder control) and female pelvic floor disorders.

These conditions are remarkably common. One in two adult women suffers from pelvic floor dysfunction, while one in three has hypertension, one in 10 has diabetes, and one in 20 has depression.

Although many women are bothered by loss of bladder control and pelvic discomfort, most are not aware that these problems have a name—or are reluctant to receive help because of the stigma associated with them.

Rockford Health System physician Thomas Toussaint, MD, who practices out of the Women’s Center, can diagnose the type of urinary incontinence and determine the treatment needed. He is the only specialist in the area to provide these services.
