RHS CEO Surprises Employees with ‘Thank You’ Celebration

August 22, 2014

An early morning surprise greeted employees of Rockford Health System. RHS President and CEO Gary Kaatz, and other members of the executive team, showed up with fanfare to personally greet employees and thank them for their efforts in creating an organization that continually receives awards and recognitions for its quality and patient safety. Amidst music and balloons, leaders passed out celebratory t-shirts and buttons, and encouraged employees to share reasons they are proud to be a part of the RHS team.

Among the many awards celebrated at the event:

  • This month, seven RHPH primary care facilities became nationally recognized as Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMH) from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. A Patient Centered Medical Home is an approach to health care that develops an ongoing partnership between patients and their primary care provider. Each patient’s care is overseen by clinician-led care teams that coordinate treatment across the health care system. Research shows medical homes lead to higher quality and lower costs, and can improve patient and provider experiences.
  • For the fourth straight year, Rockford Memorial Hospital made the prestigious U.S. News & World Report list of “2014-2015 Best Regional Hospitals.” RMH is the only local hospital to repeatedly receive this designation. It ranked 24th out of more than 200 hospitals in Illinois. That’s up from 28th last year.

“I’m proud of the culture of excellence at Rockford Health System. Our care givers perform highly advanced and complicated procedures, and they do them well. Our employees never settle; they are focused on continuous improvement.” said Kaatz.

Kaatz and other leaders began the celebration at 5:30 a.m. to connect with night shift workers leaving the facility. Leaders also made visits to employees at outlying clinics throughout the day.
