Rockford Memorial Hospital Named Among the Best in the U.S., Again, and Again

July 16, 2013

For the third straight year, Rockford Memorial Hospital has made the U.S. News & World Report prestigious list of “2013-2014 Best Regional Hospitals.” RMH is the only local hospital to repeatedly receive this designation.

After reviewing patient outcomes and patient safety initiatives, the magazine chose RMH physicians and professionals as “high performers” in health care when compared to peers in the region and across the country.

RMH ranked 28th out of more than 200 hospitals in Illinois. It was recognized as “highperforming” in the following three specialties:

  • Geriatrics
  • Nephrology
  • Pulmonology

RMH recently received the Healthgrades patient safety excellence award for the sixth time in seven years, and has been the only hospital in Rockford to ever receive that award.

“Clinical excellence drives the culture of our health system. No other health system in our community repeatedly wins these types of awards. That means you, as a patient, will get the kind of culture you can’t find any place else,” said Rockford Health System President and CEO Gary E. Kaatz.

“You don’t get to this point overnight. It is the result of a strong foundation in quality, patient safety and delivery of evidence based practice. The fact that Rockford Memorial continues to receive numerous recognitions from U.S. News, Healthgrades and Leapfrog year after year, exemplifies our commitment to a culture of continuous improvement focused on the prevention of hospital acquired conditions,” said Evelyn Pagan, Vice President of Quality and Performance Measurement.

U.S. News creates the list of hospital rankings to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges.
