Rockford Memorial Hospital: The Clear Choice for Quality

Rockford Memorial Hospital received national recognition from Healthgrades. For the second year in a row, Rockford Memorial Hospital received the Healthgrades Spine Surgery Excellence Award. This award places Rockford Memorial Hospital in the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for its excellent performance in spine surgery. RMH is the only hospital in the state of Illinois to receive this designation for two consecutive years.

RMH is also five-star recipient for spinal fusion surgery for eight years in a row. A five-star rating means the hospital’s clinical outcomes are better than expected when conducting this procedure. For the first time, RMH received the Healthgrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, which places the hospital among the top 10 percent in the nation for overall pulmonary services. RMH also received five-star recognition for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for 8 consecutive years and for the treatment of pneumonia for 12 consecutive years. Two years in a row, RMH received a five-star rating for the treatment of stroke in the area of neurosciences. RMH also received a five-star rating for defibrillator procedures.

In critical care, RMH received five stars for the treatment of sepsis for two consecutive years and for the first time, received five stars for the treatment of pulmonary embolisms. RMH is also a first time five-star recipient for esophageal/stomach surgeries.

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 40 million Medicare-patient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing hospital performance relative to each of 31 common conditions and procedures. Healthgrades awards hospitals quality achievements for cohort specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5 star (statistically better than expected), 3 star (statistically as expected) and 1 star (statistically worse than expected) categories.
