Tummy tuck for women with loose belly after multiple pregnancies has been a norm these days; and we can’t blame them if they opt for this elective procedure. Just imagine – you’ve worked so hard to have a fit body. You invested blood, sweat and tears on those countless exercise regimes, healthy diet and expensive health supplements, only for your body to be out of shape after giving birth several times.

Men may not understand it, but it’s a roller coaster of emotions for women after giving birth. Part of being emotional is when they see their body that changed a lot.

A study was conducted where more than 7000 women were interviewed on how they felt after pregnancy. More than 60% of them confessed that they don’t feel good about body image. In fact, almost all of these women revealed that their body still hasn’t returned to normal even two years post-pregnancy. Exercise and diet would no longer suffice to get rid of those stretch marks.

Since the typical methods to get the body to its original form won’t work, countless women highly consider tummy tuck after pregnancy.

The Burden of Having Excess Skin

Though most women find it a blessing to have a baby, it’s a fact that seeing the excess skin present on their tummies can also be life-altering. In most cases, after the recovery period of six months which include diet and exercise, skin sagging on the lower part of the abdomen is still present. Especially those who are experiencing disturbed body image, tummy tuck after pregnancy may be the best choice to get their body back in shape.

Health Benefits of Tummy Tuck After Pregnancy

Though there are those who believe that tummy tuck is unnecessary, studies revealed that this procedure can bring health benefits. First, studies revealed that this procedure can relieve urinary incontinence and chronic pain.

Pregnancy causes abdominal muscles to get separated, leading to weakness. As a result the lower back will have minimal support and will be unstable. By retightening the muscles, a tummy tuck can help alleviate back pain. This procedure also eliminates excess weight, thus decreasing back strain. Studies also believed that tummy tuck could extend the urethra and this can help improve urinary continence.

Tummy Tuck Post-Pregnancy

If a woman chooses to undergo full tummy tuck procedure, tightening of the abdominal muscles and shaping of the entire abdomen are to be expected. However, it’s important for the woman to follow post-operative instructions from the surgeon.

The procedure starts with an incision between the belly button and the pubic bone. Once the skin is pulled back, excess fats are then removed, proceeding to the repair of the fascia on top of the abdominal muscles. Skin is then pulled down and the surgeon places the belly button on a new location. Tummy is tightened once excess skin is removed.

During the recovery stage, the surgeon may advise the woman to use an elastic wrap to minimise swelling and to have support on the abdomen. Drainage tubes may also be recommended for draining the blood and medications will be prescribed to hasten the healing process and lessen the risk of infection.
